With a baby goat under her arm and a job at our beloved Bart’s outdoor bookstore, Emma is a true Ojai-an even though she says “beg” instead of “bag,” and boy we are lucky to have her.
INTELLECTUAL REVOLUTION by Chiany Dri: This Afro-argentine, Young Parent Advocate, Activist, Student, Organizer, Mom of Two might just be superwoman. With her incredible sense of humor and her conflict resolution skills -- it’s people like Chiany that make me feel like we might be okay after all.
COUNTING STEPS by Deanna Pino: Once upon a time, a raven haired, theater loving, music-making corporate strategist living in LA decided she wanted to slow things down. So she came to Ventura to find some peace. Somehow, the stars aligned for Deanna and I to meet. And she’s been rocking the studio with her profoundness ever since.
HOPEFUL by Kathleen Hellwitz: One of the most generous women I have ever had the pleasure of knowing, Kathleen has always had eyes for the stage. Now, on the light side of 80, she’s found her voice. And damn it if she’ll ever let it go quiet again. We love you Kathleen.
SIETE by Litzy: A fierce, fiery, intelligent, thoughtful, sassy, dedicated latina with her eyes set on a law degree and equitable treatment for all, Litzy is truly inspiring to all who know her. I feel ever so lucky.
OUTLOUD by Tatum Becker: My soft and eloquently spoken friend Tatum has just the right amount of snark to make you feel truly loved and maybe just a little vindicated -- depending on the situation. Tatum’s beautiful words and twisted characters now float effortlessly through the halls of UC Santa Cruz. I miss her so.
CHOICES by Sharon McCormick: A gentle soul, with a heart the size of the moon and a smile capable of illuminating every square inch of our tiny town. Gotta love a neighbor that leaves everything just a little bit sparkly.
PSALM 43 + 1 by Lily Brown: Political and hopeful and feminist and philanthropist and outspoken and wow -- she has just taken my breath away -- from the moment we met in the delivery room 23 years ago. My daughter, my hero.
